We’re Back!

It’s been WAY WAY WAY too long since I last wrote something to put up here. After some malware infections and a really long hiatus, my site is back and you can expect some posts from me in the coming months. I’ve been keeping myself busy and a lot has changed since I last posted. Let’s see. Where should I start? Well, I’m divorced (or almost, there’s a waiting period before it becomes official). I’ve done quite a bit of traveling. In fact, you will likely see some posts about my 2013. Yes, that’s the entire year. It was quite the year for me. I went on a 3,000 mile road trip with my dog, Tela, down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Nashville and back by way of Durham, NC. I went on Phish summer and fall tours (21 shows total, 4 time zones, 9 states). I met an ex-girlfriend I hadn’t seen in 9 years, and she’s no longer an ex. I suffered a very serious back injury (that wasn’t caused by anything in particular other than a congenital issue that decided it was time to cause problems). I spent lots of time in physical therapy and possibly needing major back surgery… and now I don’t need surgery and I’m almost done with physical therapy. It was a good year for me. You can expect some posts on the year, including some excerpts from the journal I kept during the road trip.

Until then, feel free to peruse the site and check out some of the posts I’ve written.

I’ve been a bad blogger…

So I know I just posted my thoughts on Bethel. Most of it was already written, I just had to finish it up. Really, I should add some pics, but you can check my Flickr stream for the pics.

Anyway… next weekend, I’ll be headed to Watkins Glen, NY for Super Ball IX (that’s nine, not super ballix). It’s Phish’s 9th festival. I will definitely be reporting back from there… but probably not until after I return. And I hope (no promises here) that it won’t take me a month to post about it like it did my trip to Bethel.

Back from… hiatus?

So I never took a formal hiatus. In fact, I don’t know why I haven’t been writing as much as I had been. It could be because Phish isn’t currently touring (though I am pretty sure I still need to write a show review from Fall Tour). Things have picked up in life and work and prevented me from writing much lately. I have a long weekend coming up. I’ll probably write a few posts and schedule them to publish over the next week.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Weight Loss Journey – I know I’ve written about this before, but this time I’m serious and it’s working.
  • Trey Tour – I’m hitting up the TAB show at the Oakdale tonight. Expect a review.
  • Phish Albany Night 2 – I was there. It’s been written about. I’ll write my own thoughts.
  • Max Creek Thanksgiving Eve – I was also there. I’ll post my thoughts.
  • Week of Skiing – I just got back from a week at Sunday River.
  • The Lion’s Pride – Chris and Jen Lively’s (of Ebenezer’s fame) latest project in Brunswick, ME. I ate there this week.
  • Allagash Brewery Tour – Stopped by  yesterday on our way back from Maine.

As you can see, I have a lot to write about now. Some of it has been hanging over my head for a long time. Some of it’s more recent. I’ll try to get all this taken care of in the next couple days (most likely Monday when I’ve got the day to myself).

In addition to all that, I’m also going to be checking out the Disco Biscuits for the first time on Friday here in Providence. I never really got into the untz that is Bisco, but since they’re stopping by PVD, I figured I’d check them out. I’ll be joined by my friends Steve and Laura from This Week on Lot. They love the untz and now they get to show me why untz and flatbrims go so well together. Expect a post on that show/scene sometime next weekend.

Upgraded Site

As I’m sure you can tell, my site is quite different. You’re going to have to bear with the look while I figure out what I’m going to do about the theme. The old theme I used, K2, seems to be a bit buggy with WordPress 2.8.4. I may just be stuck waiting for the K2 developers to update the theme to fully support the newest version of WordPress. Until I find a fix, the site’s gonna look pretty blah for a while. The content will continue to be the same quality that it has always been.

Update: I got the theme working properly. Please bear with me as I customize the CSS a bit to get the look of my site back (or perhaps change it).

Update 2: I think I got all the CSS customized. I still have the Blogroll and some other customizations to make before it’s back to pretty much exactly what it used to be (though it will never been exact). It seems as though when you export the blog to an XML file, it doesn’t backup the Blogroll, which is unfortunate, and a bit surprising. I’m likely going to do away with my Links page and just put all the blogs I read in my Blogroll instead.

Happy New Year

I realize I haven’t been writing much lately and I’ve probably said this before.  I’m now a homeowner, which has been taking up quite a bit of my time outside of work.  We also just bought a new car, trading in our two cars for just one.  For those interested, it’s a 2008 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5i.  It’s quite a nice car and a good upgrade from the two we had (my 2003 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport and Susan’s 2002 VW Jetta GLS).  Unfortunately, I had to give up my manual transmission, but the change was worth it.  After only putting 2500 miles on Susan’s car in the last year and having to put several hundred dollars worth of work into it because it sat most of the time (I wasn’t really willing to drive it to work just to give it use, I hated it), we decided we had no need for 2 cars, but we couldn’t keep mine, the more utilitarian one, being a wagon, because Susan couldn’t comfortably drive it (the manual transmission being the main culprit).  We opted for a bigger car because there might be a possibility of a family someday and I firmly believe that cars are meant to be run until they die.  Well, that and the fact that when we go on trips, mine somehow got overfilled.

I’ve been drinking a lot of beer and spending time with friends and family over the holidays, which has taken up my time over the past couple weeks, being on vacation (though I go back to work tomorrow, ugh).

Anyway, here’s what to look for in 2009:

  • Updated WordPress – I’m planning on doing a full site update at some point.
  • More posts about beer.
  • Homebrewing! I’ll be getting equipment sometime this month and will hopefully brew my first batch by spring (style TBD, but possibly a porter or stout of some kind so Susan will let me continue brewing).
  • Cooking with beer – something I’ve wanted to do for a while and once we’re fully settled, I plan on doing some more cooking.
  • More on Providence and my new neighborhood – I plan on getting involved with Friends of Elmhurst.
  • Phish!!!! They’re back and I’ll be at some shows.
  • Local music – I hope to find some time to check out some more local music.
  • Technology – I want to use technology a bit more in my house, this might be a bit more long term than the next year, think 2-3 years.
  • Technology – Cell phone contract is up in April, plan on going the smart phone route and re-evaluating carriers.

I’m looking forward to 2009.  From what I’ve been reading, I’m the only one looking forward to it.  The economy still sucks, but I have hope it will pick up again.  It should be a good year for me as I should be able to start some new hobbies and continue with some old hobbies.  I’ll be going on a ski trip in February to Sunday River.  I’ll probably have some stuff to report about that as well (both about the skiing and the beer).  It should be fun.

So here’s to a great 2009!

I’m Back

I’m back from my honeymoon in Vermont.  We stayed in Stowe, but visited a bunch of other towns, most significantly, Burlington.  I fell in love with Burlington.  That’s all I’ll say right now.  We visited a bunch of breweries and brewpubs and bought waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy more beer than we can drink (though we’ll be happy to share… I think we came home with about 2-3 cases worth of beer).  Anyway, I’m back.  I’ll post more about everything at some point (possibly tomorrow after we finish unpacking).  Vermont is officially my favorite state and Burlington is officially my new favorite city.

I’m Married

My wedding went by without a hitch. It could not have been more perfect. If you are having a wedding in Rhode Island, you should seriously consider the Providence Biltmore Hotel. They made the day absolutely wonderful.

Note: I wrote this at one point planning to finish it before I left for the honeymoon, but didn’t. I’m just hitting publish on it and leaving it at that. 🙂

MIA

I might be MIA for a bit.  Our wedding is on Saturday.  We leave on Monday for our honeymoon in Vermont.  I’m hoping I’ll find some time to blog a little about the trip.  We will be doing at least 3 brewery tours, maybe 4.  I’ll keep those a surprise for all you reader(s) out there.  I’ll also write about any other fun stuff we do outside the hotel (though there is a good beer bar in the hotel, so we may not have to leave very often).

Anyway, don’t be surprised if I don’t write any updates for about a week or so… I’ll be getting married and going on a honeymoon.  I might send updates to Twitter since I can do that from my cell phone.

Happy Holidays (a little late)

So if you haven’t noticed, I’ve been away for a bit.  I’ve got a bunch of stuff (at least beer and technology wise) to write about.  I’ll hopefully get a post or 2 up tomorrow.  I just spent a week in CT and got back this afternoon and had to unpack and now I need some sleep.  Stay tuned… but until then, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Festivus, Happy (?) Kwanzaa, Happy Yule, and Happy New Year!  (that should cover all the major ones)

As a little teaser, I’ll be writing about my new GPS (it’s a TomTom), two Wii games, beer (a Saison and Newport Storm’s yearly releases from this year and last year and a very brief mention of a few others I had), and a little bit about small towns in New England.
