Spin Cookie

A friend of mine (and former student employee) has started a blog called Spin Cookie.  He’ll be mostly writing about video games, both old and new.  I am specifically interested in his Wii game reviews.  It looks to be a good site.  He spun the game reviews off his former blog, Boxed Lunch Comics.

Hilarious Trial Transcript

I just had to share this.  I think I saw it on Boing Boing.  It’s a trial of a guy who stole 40,000 hotel coat hangers.  During his testimony, he gives the prosecutor the complete run around, making him (the prosecutor) seem like a total idiot.  Here’s a brief snippet of the testimony.

Counsel: Are you serious when you say that clients of yours drink from their own minibars in their own bedrooms in their own homes?

Chrysler: Certainly. And just as in a hotel, they grumble about the price and size of the bottles, and the absence of ice.

Counsel: So why don’t they get a proper fridge in their bedroom?

Chrysler : Because then it wouldn’t be like a hotel.

Judge: Tell me, Mr Chrysler, do these businessmen of yours also have Gideon Bibles by their bedside at home?

Chrysler: Many of them, sir.

Judge: And where do you get the Gideon Bibles from?

Chrysler: Alas, they, too, have to be taken from hotels.

Judge: Then why are you not also up on a charge of Bible-stealing?

Chrysler: Because the Bibles do not belong to the hotels. They belong to the Gideon Society. And the Gideon Society has decided not to prosecute me, but to forgive me and tell me to go and sin no more.

Judge: And have you sinned no more?

Chrysler: Alas, no.

Eat your heart out American Idol… Here’s PC Idol!

Last week, I learned of PC Idol, Providence College’s own rendition of American Idol. One of my student employees, Jenny Mackintosh is performing, and doing quite well if I may say so myself. She’s got an amazing voice and totally kicks ass. So vote for Jenny to continue on. One vote per MAC address is allowed.

Here are Jenny’s videos from Round 1 and Round 2. Vote for Jenny to continue to Round 3.

Valentine’s Day Tasting at Nikki’s

I just thought that I’d post this for anyone who is in the Providence area and reads my blog.  Nikki’s Liquors in North Providence (right on the Providence line in the Shaw’s plaza on Admiral St) is holding a Valentine’s Day tasting tonight featuring Lindeman’s Belgian Lambic beers (Framboise, Cassis, Peche, Pomme, Kriek, and their Gueuze) and fine chocolates.

I’ve had their Framboise, Cassis, and Peche and I love the Framboise and Cassis.  The Peche is a little too sweet for my tastes.  These aren’t your normal Lambics, which tend to be on the sour or tart side.  Lindeman’s beers are a bit sweeter and more wine- or Champagne-like in flavor.

Don’t install Spycatware on your computer

Susan usually sends me a bunch of LOLcats from I can has cheezburger everyday (she apparently has more time at work than I do and I’m the one in front of a computer the entire time).  Today she sent this one.  I thought it was freaking hilarious.

Super Bowl XLII Champs - NY Giants!!

Now I’m not normally a big sports fan, especially football, but I couldn’t help but watch the end of the Super Bowl tonight (I was out and about running errands for most of the game because I really didn’t care and was really only watching while waiting for my laundry). When I am a sports fan, I tend to be a New York sports fan, having grown up in Southern CT, much closer to NY than Boston or Foxboro as is the case of the Patriots. Sure, the Patriots had a historic season going into the Super Bowl completely undefeated. However, every good thing must come to an end, and tonight, that end was the New York Giants with an unlikely ending to an otherwise perfect season.

Personally, I can’t stand the obnoxiousness of Boston-area sports fans, generally being Red Sox fans, but that extends a bit to Patriots fans as well, as they have become quite cocky with their team’s perfect regular season. The only good thing (other than being the first football team to go 19-0) that would have come of the Patriots winning tonight would be the possibility of it being cool to hate them (much like it’s become cool to hate the Yankees, the most decorated team in the history of professional sports, all sports). But the only thing better than the Patriots making history with a 19-0 season is the Patriots going 18-1 to a very unlikely opponent who barely made it to the post season. If I enjoyed watching any Super Bowls in the past 28 years, this was the best. It was a good game and anyone who says otherwise is just being a crybaby (Boston-area sports fans love to blame the refs or the umpires when their teams lose, even when it’s a legit loss). Both teams played tough. When the Patriots’ offense pushed, the Giants’ defense pushed right back. In the end, it seems as though the Giants’ defense got the best of the Patriots and Eli Manning made some incredible plays (especially in the run to the game winning touchdown breaking loose of the Patriots’ defense and making an incredible throw that was almost incomplete, which was probably the play of the game in my opinion).

Anyway, I’m happy it’s over and I am thrilled the Giants won.

EDIT: I saw this post a post that no longer exists on Beer Advocate because it was unrelated to beer and had to share it. It basically sums up how I feel about Belichick and his reaction to losing. He didn’t once say in his interview that the Giants played one hell of a game. Instead, he just said he was disappointed in his own team. That’s pretty classless if you ask me.  Basically, the BA post called Belichick a sore loser, which is pretty accurate if you ask me.

The New Boxed Lunch Comics

Since I am all about free plugs for friends (or people who do me favors), Boxed Lunch Comics updated their site with a new Wordpress theme (just happens to be the same theme I’m using, K2).  Check out the new site.  They claim they’re going to post more about stuff in general and do more drawings and comics.

First 100 Dot Coms

While browsing Slashdot this morning, I found a post about the first 100 .com domains ever registered (the site is actually on the longest domain ever registered).  The first .com was symbolics.com and apparently still exists.  Actually, a bunch of them are still in existence today… ibm.com, hp.com, apple.com, att.com (and many others).  Check out the list.  It’s pretty good history of the big companies of the mid-80’s.
