Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout

Tonight, I had Nøgne Ø’s Imperial Stout. This beer pours a thick opaque black with a small dark tan head that lingers for a bit. The beer doesn’t have a huge smell, but you can catch some roasted and chocolate malts in the aroma. The taste is superb with roasted malts, chocolate malts, and some coffee bitterness. The beer is thick, very smooth, and slightly creamy. It is almost like an oatmeal stout (and malted oats are in the ingredients list on the bottle). I could drink this again and again. You can’t even tell that it’s 9% ABV.

The biggest downside to this is the size of the bottle. It’s too big for just one, but just too small for two. I split it with Susan, but I wish it was either a 750 or a 22 oz bomber instead of a half liter. Regardless, this beer is great. I will warn those of you who drink it that there is a lot of sediment at the bottom and it’s not just yeast. It’s gritty stuff that you won’t want in your glass, so pour carefully.
