Eat your heart out American Idol… Here’s PC Idol!

Last week, I learned of PC Idol, Providence College’s own rendition of American Idol. One of my student employees, Jenny Mackintosh is performing, and doing quite well if I may say so myself. She’s got an amazing voice and totally kicks ass. So vote for Jenny to continue on. One vote per MAC address is allowed.

Here are Jenny’s videos from Round 1 and Round 2. Vote for Jenny to continue to Round 3.

Long Trail IPA

Last night I decided to try my bottle of Long Trail IPA.  After looking at Beer Advocate, I can’t seem to figure out which entry to link, so here’s the second one (though retired) with a picture of a bottle that looks more like what I had.  I think they’re both the same beer, they just went to a different label and then back again.

Anyway, the beer is unfiltered.  It pours a nice cloudy pale amber with a small white head that hangs around for a little bit then goes and hides, but makes itself known through the nice lacing on the glass.  The beer smells of hops, but not too strong.  The taste is hops up front, followed by some malty sweetness, and then more hops on the finish.  There’s no real aftertaste, which is nice.  This is a really easy drinking beer.  It feels a little oily from the hops, but nothing crazy or out of the ordinary.

Now, what surprised me is that both Beer Advocate and Long Trail call this an English IPA, which tend to be a bit more malty and less hoppy than this beer.  This is more like a cross between an American Pale Ale and an English IPA.  That being said, I did really like this.  It’s another solid beer from a great brewery (again, a very underrated brewery that isn’t trying to impress anyone, just making solid beers).
