Narragansett Porter!!!

So after the news that Narragansett is hoping to move their brewing operations back to RI, there was a lot of talk on the boards (both Beer Advocate and Urban Planet) about the Narragansett beers, one being the draft-only Narragansett Porter. I had heard about this elusive beer about 2 years ago, yet had never seen it. As the word of the brewery perked up conversation, people started posting about where to find the porter. One of those places, which wasn’t mention on the boards, is the Wild Colonial Tavern on South Water St. in Providence (it happens to also be one of the better beer bars in the city, boasting a nice selection of bottled craft beer and a few good ones on tap). Anyway, onto the review of this elusive, yet awesome, beer.

The beer poured a nice dark ruby/brown color with a small head that quickly disappeared. Smelled of roasted malts and nothing more really… maybe a little caramel malt in there as well. Taste was nice and roasted/toasted malt with an ever so slight hint of caramel and just enough hops to balance it out without taking away from the nice roasted flavor. The beer is not too thin and not to thick… it’s just right. The carbonation is just right as well. All in all, I really enjoyed this beer. It’s a great no frills porter. I had 2 of these tonight and could’ve kept drinking if I wasn’t driving. I highly recommend this beer to anyone who can find it in the Providence area. This is one they need to bottle with a wider distribution. It’s too good to be as elusive as I’ve found it to be.

Update: To top off seeing this beer tonight, I also got “mugged” on Beer Advocate. Basically it’s based on your rating of Beer Karma, which has some odd math behind how you get it. As there was only 1 review of the Porter there, I had to post another review myself and noticed the mug after my name on there. I’m now a “Disciple” on BA.

Boulder Cold Hop

I had Boulder’s Cold Hop last night.  The label calls is a British Style Ale, which I suppose it was an English IPA.  It poured a hazy pale amber with a nice little head that hung around.  Aroma of hops came out.  As I wasn’t really picking out flavors, I can only say that this had a mild hops flavor, though I can’t really say much more than that.  It was a very easy drinking beer and definitely something I’d have again.  I was impressed.  Some of Boulder’s offerings can be hit or miss.  This one was a hit.

Don’t install Spycatware on your computer

Susan usually sends me a bunch of LOLcats from I can has cheezburger everyday (she apparently has more time at work than I do and I’m the one in front of a computer the entire time).  Today she sent this one.  I thought it was freaking hilarious.
