My brother had picked up a 6 pack of Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry Ale for Christmas (though he has yet to try one). I stole a bottle when packing up the beer I was bringing home after the holidays as it was something I had never had (nor heard of) before. I decided to try it tonight… Holy raspberry, Batman!
The beer pours a normal amber color with almost no head (the one that shows up and quickly disappears is white). There is ample carbonation, though swirling the beer brings up nothing (and it’s definitely at the right temperature). Smell is of raspberry and nothing else really.
Taste is of honey and raspberry sweetness for the first half and then you get a little hops and malt in there halfway through it. It’s not a bad taste, but it’s nothing special either.
It feels a bit thin, though it’s drinkable. I’d have another if I had no good choices, though I won’t be buying this anytime soon. It’d be good for a nice summer afternoon. The second half saved it from wine cooler status. If you like sweeter beer or fruity drinks, this is probably for you.
