Since I felt I needed some content, I figured I’d base my first content post on dinner tonight. We went to Tortilla Flats for dinner. The food there is alright, nothing special. I had a huge burrito (the Incredible Burrito). It was pretty standard Tex-Mex (I was there once before and ordered their Harvest Burrito, which was different, but also good.
Anyways, since this is supposed to be about beer, they had Narragansett’s Bock on tap. I had only had it in the bottle before and so I had to try it (even though they also had Smuttynose’s Porter on tape, which I LOVE). The ‘Gansett seemed like a good beer to have with the cuisine, so I got that. Now, I will add here that I really liked the ‘Gansett Bock in the bottle. It’s a good lighter beer with a good amount of flavor, but definitely not over the top. It has a nice roasted flavor to it. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the lack of carbonation. I had reviewed the bottled variety on Beer Advocate once before and complained about that issue there (that issue lowered the score). So on tap, the roasted flavors were much more apparent and it seemed to have quite a bit more body to it as well. However, the same issue with the carbonation was present. I wonder if that’s just the way it is, because the entire 6 pack I had and now this one makes me feel like that’s just the way this beer is. I would still rate it well as it’s a good, lighter, easy going, summer beer with loads of flavor that even your Bud Light drinking buddies would enjoy. It makes for a nice introductory beer for people who only drink Bud/Miller/Coors type beers, yet will still satisfy craft beer lovers.
